Welcome to Spring Semester 2013
A&F(RecStay)FIX
Hi Everyone,
Here's a quick statistics: it seems that there are about 8000 of you who regularly stream or download the lecture videos, and a little less than half of that who regularly answer in-video quizzes. Again, this is quite a serious technical course and some of the material is not easily absorbed just on a casual watching, even for full time engineering or science students. You may need to go through the material multiple times to digest. And, since there's no pass/fail anyway, you should just learn as much as you feel comfortable from each lecture.
Don't forget the guest lecture videos. Those are gems.
We've heard some suggestions on homework too. Some HW questions are quite challenging, and they're for full time engineering and science students at Princeton University. For coursera, a better way to make assessment more accessible is perhaps make HWs multiple choice formats and less time consuming. So that's what we're going to do starting this week. Midterm on coursera will be in multiple choice formats too. They'll be a little more involved than the in-video quizzes, but not too much. Check them out later this week.
As to those who're prepared and available to dig really deep, there'll be a total of 10 or so GCHs, releasing at the rate of about 2 per week starting last week. Pick any subset of those and dig deep, and you may discover something really cool plus chances toward publications, patents, jobs, etc.
